Updated: Mar 2, 2022
You’ve decided it’s time to start a business because you want to earn extra money on the side, you’re looking for some freedom, or maybe you’re ready to tell your boss to take a hike.
If you are confused about what to sell online or at a physical location, chances are you haven’t done your research yet.
There is tons of stuff you can sell online or offline too depending on how you want your business to be set up.
The most common method of finding a trending product is to do basic searches online to see what products are being sold. You can do a simple search on Amazon or Google to see what people are buying.
Items to consider when selling a product or a service:
Uniqueness
Difficulty
Pricing
Simpleness
Despite what your reasonings are for doing your own thing, you’ll have to make a choice on what product or service you’d like to offer. You want to find an in-demand product or service that people actually want and need.
Before you get started, do your homework. Research is important in finding a competitive product that is unique and needed at the same time.
Here are other questions to consider too:

If you want to compare the two, a product is a physical item such as a bath towel or a keychain where a service is intangible. The work is usually done by another person, in this case, you, for a price.
These types of services can include marketing, copywriting, or a number of different things. I’ll go more in-depth on the differences between a service and a product in other articles. For this portion, I want to cover the simple differences.
There are vast differences between selling and marketing the two. I’d recommend you read free ways to grow your business.
Is It Marketable?
This is an important question to ask yourself when Is your product or service marketable? Are people searching for it? You can ask your friends or family. To make a profitable business, research what people are buying. Niche categories are everywhere.
Niche ideas can consist of the following:
Health
Fitness and Weight Loss
Pets
Dating and Relationships
Self-Improvement
Making Money
Beauty Treatments
Gadgets and Technology
These are examples that I’ve seen online. You need to find something that piques your interest the most or meshes with your product idea. There are ways to make money in these niches.
Through promotion and branding, you’ll find that the great thing about niches is that there are massive amounts of demand that you can attract to your business.
Do People Want It?
This is the simple key ingredient. Do people want your product or service? A good product or service is determined by the value that it brings a customer. You don’t want to sell something that does absolutely nothing for your customer.
To determine if people want it, try researching online or doing a questionnaire with your family or friends.
